As someone who has visited many a Teach For America corps member classroom, I would like to respond to the comments and musings in the above posting. In my experience, corps members are filled with great devotion and determination -- not simply to motivate their students, but to provide them with the skills and tools necessary for academic and life success. These corps members work day and night to provide their students with high quality instruction. Like all new teachers they struggle at times, but my hat is off to them for their enthusiasm, their devotion, and their faith in making a difference. If you read up on what Teach For America stands for you will find that it is more than motivation -- it is all about making significant gains, meeting general education and IEP needs -- and moving our kids forward.
